CONSIDERS URGENT
Complaint from an Owner of an Eight Seater Mini-Bus.
A letter had been received from the owner of an eight seater mini-bus
complaining that he was unable to levy the surcharge of £1.50 which is
available to those vehicles which are purpose built wheelchair accessible.
The Chief Solicitor had responded to this complaint stating that the
Committee in the past had given consideration as to whether the extra
charge should include minibuses which are not purpose built wheelchair
accessible vehicles but had decided against this.
Members discussed whether this policy should be applied to the eight
seater vehicle which despite having the room to carry wheelchairs and
mobility scooters was not purpose built wheelchair accessible.
The Committee agreed to uphold the earlier decision not to apply the
surcharge to such vehicles.
Drinks Promotion
The Chair informed the Committee that he had become aware of a drinks
promotion at the re-opening of the Alma where at intervals during the
evening, customers would be able to buy a shot of whiskey for 5 pence.
The Consumer Services Manager stated that if the police objected then the
licence could be reviewed but unless there was an objection the licence
should remain as it was.
Church Street
The Chair stated that he had heard that taxi drivers were unwilling to enter
this area between the hours of 2.00 and 4.00 am and asked the drivers
present why this was so. The drivers responded saying that there was a lot
of rowdy behaviour at this time and drivers were worried that their vehicles
may suffer damage.
The meeting concluded at 10.35 am.
