Background In<strong>for</strong>mation<br />
Development of <strong><strong>HCV</strong>F</strong> <strong>Toolkit</strong> was decided & agreed during a special<br />
meeting held in 2004 facilitated by PNG FSC <strong>National</strong> Initiative.<br />
It is the Pre-condition#3 of FSC International prior to accreditation be<br />
effected<br />
<strong><strong>HCV</strong>F</strong> <strong>Toolkit</strong> of PNG was developed from ProForest Global template <strong>for</strong><br />
PNG Context.<br />
Participatory/consultative approach involving various key partners rs and<br />
stakeholders in the development of the <strong>Toolkit</strong> (c.12 meetings & peer<br />
reviewing).<br />
<strong><strong>HCV</strong>F</strong> NWG composed of 3 CHAMBERS – environmental, social, and<br />
biological.<br />
<strong>The</strong>re are 5 High Conservation Values (<strong>HCV</strong>(<br />
<strong>HCV</strong>’s) ) in PNG Context.<br />
Provides practical guidance to <strong>for</strong>est managers & other stakeholders ers in PNG<br />
to identify, manage, & monitor <strong><strong>HCV</strong>F</strong>s within FSC accredited<br />
certification/time bound management improvement activities leading to FSC<br />
certified <strong>for</strong>est management.<br />
<strong>Toolkit</strong> is driven towards <strong>for</strong>est management certification.<br />
<strong>Toolkit</strong> is intended to help <strong>for</strong>est managers comply with 9 th Principle of PNG<br />
FSC <strong>National</strong> Standards <strong>for</strong> <strong>for</strong>est management referenced in current Nat.<br />
Forest Management Standards <strong>for</strong> PNG.
