Policy to m inimize surprise mail
Many Worldwide News readers
have been deluged wit h hate mail ,
religious tracts, chain lencrs, business
offers and advertisements since
placing their addresses in the personals
section of the paper.
To he lp e li minate this abuse,
Gamer Ted Armstrong has asked the
WN Circul atio n Department to develop
an additional reader service to
reduce the amount of surprise mai l
some readers are receiv ing.
He re's how it works:
Placing Personals
W hen you send in a personal , the
Circ ul at ion Depanment wi ll assign
you an alphanumeric mailing code.
Instead of your address appearing in
the paper, the code wi ll be prin ted
after your name. The WN will forwa
rd all responses. other thaD commercial,
proselyting, IX>mographic
o r obscene materia l or chain lellers,
or othe rs than the WN feels would be
offensive to its readers and not in
keeping with the o riginal spirit and
intent of their personals, and the
same will be d islX>sed of. After the
initia l contact. of course. you wi ll be
able te.) write directly to your correspondents.
By requesting the publication of
your personal. you thereby consent
to this nmil-opening-and-disposition
policy.
This service will be optional, and
if you wish to lake advantage of it
you must specificall y. Slate thai you
do wish your address to appear in
prinl
This system will not apply to pe r
sonals in the "Special Requests" and
"Follow-Up" sections, because of
the urgent nature of many of those
