NATIVE ENVIRONMENT Breeding tract falls under cold desert region with very little vegetation. Rainfall is rare. Winters very harsh (-20( to -30°C). Heavy snowfall from October to March and area cut off from rest of the world. Mild summer from June to October.
MANAGEMENT PRACTICES Animals managed both stationary as well as migratory. In the main breeding tract stationary from Dec. to May. Traditional (scientific) breeding strategies followed. Breeding as well as foaling starts in April - May. All animals are shifted to pastures except young ones and nourishing mothers.
