<strong>of</strong> thc scvcntc~n:h century one is corn !ed to read <strong>the</strong> Franuort and<br />

J,cip.tig I%ir Gtalogues and to check t titles. Complete scts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se<br />

cats!ogucs do not exist anywhere. I-Iambnrg has zpparcntly <strong>the</strong> longest<br />

run, f!;orn 1624 to ~ &p ; I7r;tnFfort has a od run, ton, from 1593 to 1647 ;<br />

both ui rhcst sets would lnvc been helpfu T' to my researches. As it is, I have<br />

Wilhclm X5tzer ',L gave me many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Frankfort details, szps that <strong>Fitzer</strong><br />

announced in 1636 thm, in 1637 four, and in rGgg two new ubliations.<br />

As we !lave already seen in thc case <strong>of</strong> Fitzcr's projected I f 39 edition <strong>of</strong><br />

Harvey which ncvcr materialized, not dl &c booh announced wcrc published.<br />

It <strong>of</strong>ten happened that a ublisher wanted to forestall ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

edition <strong>of</strong> a book he intended to pu ! Iish himself, or he wished to test <strong>the</strong><br />

market, when he announced n ncw publication, or he simply changed his<br />
