Release of Biologicals for <strong>Rabies</strong> Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (RPEP)<br />

The Medical Officer of <strong>Health</strong> must authorize all releases of RPEP<br />

How to Access RPEP<br />

Monday-Friday (0800-1600 hrs)<br />

The CMOH or assigned designate will call the WGH pharmacy to request the release of the products (request <strong>Rabies</strong><br />

vaccine <strong>and</strong> RabIg) at (867) 393-8737.<br />

After hours, the CMOH or assigned designate will phone WGH Admitting <strong>and</strong> Discharge <strong>and</strong> request that the<br />

pharmacist on call be paged. Phone: (867) 393-8700.<br />

Administration Arrangements – Location of Exposed Person<br />

Whitehorse:<br />

In Whitehorse, the administration of the initial dose of vaccine along with RabIg should occur in the WGH ER or as<br />

arranged by YCDC.<br />

WGH ER phone: (867) 393-8926<br />

Subsequent doses of vaccine will be arranged through YCDC. Potential sites include: YCDC, Whitehorse <strong>Health</strong><br />

Centre or WGH ER.<br />

Communities:<br />

Old Crow <strong>Health</strong> Centre has a stock of RPEP (Vaccine <strong>and</strong> RabIg).<br />

All other communities: Arrangements will be made in collaboration with the nurse to have RPEP sent as soon as<br />

possible to the community from WGH hospital, where the administration of RPEP will be done by the Primary <strong>Health</strong><br />

Care Nurse or Community <strong>Health</strong> Nurse at the Community <strong>Health</strong> Centre. Arrangements for administration could<br />

also include having the client come into Whitehorse.<br />
