The panel will attempt to clarify what is at stake with the development of new
technologies with regard to the image and affect in the context of global
knolwedges. Thinkers who have set the pace in this regard are Bernard Stiegler,
Mark B.N. Hansen, and, in film theory, Lev Manovich, as well as Freud and
Lacan, earlier theorists of affect.

For the first time in history, the number of people living in cities exceeds those
living in rural environments. The panel will present local practices with a focus
on the material, sensory, physiological, cultural and experiential dimensions and
will speculate how those practices can create and affect social relations.
