Council, Pohang Feb/Mar 2005<br />

CEPIS<br />

A beneficial meeting w<strong>as</strong> held in Frankfurt on November 8 th 2004 between the <strong>IFIP</strong><br />

President, Secretary and Head of Secretariat with the CEPIS President, Chief<br />

Executive and their representative to <strong>IFIP</strong> GA. The discussion covered a wide range<br />

of subjects of mutual interest concerning how the cooperation between the two<br />

organisations could be strengthened. <strong>IFIP</strong> stressed the importance it attached to<br />

having a good working relationship with regional bodies and accepted the need to<br />

improve communication with the <strong>IFIP</strong> Member Societies. It w<strong>as</strong> agreed to hold<br />

another meeting in autumn 2005.<br />

GA Minutes<br />

The GA 2004 Minutes were successfully produced by the Secretariat and distributed<br />

shortly after the event. The l<strong>as</strong>t paragraph of Minute 4.8.1 concerning “Future pattern<br />

of major events” should read: “Mr Laprie proposed that the problem should be<br />

discussed in an open forum prior to the Council meeting and brought for decision to<br />

Council 2005”.<br />

4.3.4 EB Meeting Report<br />

The Secretary reported that EB had discussed several matters already reported in<br />

these Minutes in the President’s and Secretary’s report. These included Regional<br />

Affiliates and recent and forthcoming events.<br />

The President h<strong>as</strong> reported to EB that his contacts with the Russian Academy of<br />

Sciences had not produced any results and he would now say that unless they<br />

respond Russia’s membership would be terminated at the end of 2005.<br />

EB w<strong>as</strong> ple<strong>as</strong>ed to receive an application from APDSI which will take over the<br />

membership of the defunct API in Portugal. An application had been received from<br />

Zambia. These were now with the Applications Committee.<br />

Affiliate member ICCC w<strong>as</strong> dissolved at the end of 2004.<br />

EB agreed that the Secretariat, in combination with the Secretary, should produce an<br />

electronic version of the Newsletter.<br />

4.3.5 Tre<strong>as</strong>urer’s Report<br />

The Tre<strong>as</strong>urer introduced his report.<br />

2004 Financial Result<br />

The 2004 accounts were reviewed in January 2005 in co-operation with the Auditor<br />

(Consultatio) in Vienna. The 2004 Result, after amortisation and depreciation<br />

according to approved policies, and after Special Funds Provisions, reflected a<br />

surplus of €195,938. The result is much better than the budgeted surplus of €98K.<br />

Compared with 2003, the 2004 Result showed a significant decre<strong>as</strong>e in both income<br />

and expenses. The Final Result, after Special Funds Provision of -€55K, showed an<br />

incre<strong>as</strong>e in <strong>IFIP</strong>’s General Fund by €195K.
