Wednesday, March 29, 2006 IBM Software Group | DB2 Information Management Software Terminology • For the purposes of this presentation ASCII - all ASCII CCSIDs that DB2 currently supports EBCDIC - all EBCDIC CCSIDs that DB2 currently supports UNICODE - UTF-8 or UTF-16 Encoding Scheme • ASCII, EBCDIC or Unicode CCSID – Coded Character Set Identifier (used by DB2 to tag string data) • Two-byte, unsigned binary integer identifying a specific set of encoding scheme and one or more pairs of character sets (CS) and code pages (CP) CCSID set • The single byte CCSID value (SBCS), mixed CCSID value and double byte CCSID value (DBCS) associated with a particular encoding scheme Multiple CCSID Sets • When two or more CCSID sets contain different CCSID values for one or more values in a set (SBCS, Mixed or DBCS).
