■ Memory Verse Activity - On three separate pieces of paper, print each part of the verse. 1)
Put God's kingdom first. 2) Do what he wants you to do. 3) Then all of those things will also be
given to you. Mix them up and practice putting the verse in the right order. Discuss with your students
that getting things is last in order. God wants us to want Him and to obey Him.
■ Decorate your area with scenes from the Sermon on the Mount. Assign each student one of
the following; “The Be-Attitudes” (Matthew 5:3-11), “Salt and Light” (Matthew 5:13-16), “New
Rules” (Matthew 5:17-48), “Lord’s Prayer” (Matthew 6:5-15), “Don’t . . . Instead . . .” (Matthew 6:19-
34), “Ask, Seek, Knock” (Matthew 7:7-12), “Hear and Obey” (Matthew 7:15-29). Encourage them to
read the passage and illustrate it.
■ Make birds and lilies. This can be done with origami or as paper bag puppets. Flowers can
also be made from tissue paper. While crafting the birds and lilies, talk about how God knows what
we need. If He feeds the birds and makes the lilies so beautiful, how much more will He do for us!
■ Make a Lord’s Prayer wall hanging. On small squares of colored paper, write a part of the
Lord’s Prayer. Attach the squares, in order, to a long piece of ribbon.
■ Make a Prayer Box. Cover an empty tissue box with craft paper or gift wrap. Provide paper
and pencils, encouraging your students to share their prayer requests. Assure them that you will be
faithful to pray for them. Encourage them to pray as well.
■ Sing songs to reinforce the lesson. Suggestions include, “This Little Light of Mine,” “Seek Ye
First,” and “The Wise Man and the Foolish Man.”
■ Talk a little more about being “salt.” Taste foods that are salty and unsalted. For example,
salted and unsalted crackers, popcorn, potato chips, etc.
■ Make lighthouse crafts. Talk about how believers are light shining in dark and dangerous
places.
■ Make a “Lord’s Prayer Puzzle.” Write the Lord’s Prayer on construction paper or poster
board. Cut into puzzle shapes and practice memorizing the prayer as you put the puzzle back
together.
