Mrs Deacon
Retires:
On Wednesday 1 st
April, after 28 years at Curdridge
Primary School, Mrs Deacon retired.
The children gave her a fabulous send off
with a special Abba themed assembly.
Each class had rehearsed a special
farewell message which started with
Class 1’s humorous rhyme. Class 2 held
some special flowers spelling Mrs
Deacon and remembered a wonderful
poem all about Mrs Deacon’s time at
Curdridge.
Class 3 acted out some funny scenes of
things that had happened at our school
over the years and Class 4 performed a
wonderful dance to one of Mrs
Deacon’s favourite groups: Abba!
The whole school then sang several
Abba songs with a very specially adapted
Abba song, at the end, which brought
tears to many people’s eyes.
Finally after each class had presented
Mrs Deacon with a gift, the main present
was unveiled which was a lovely garden
bench with a plaque saying farewell and
thank you.
We will miss you Mrs Deacon!
Class 1 visit The
Hawthorns: On Wednesday
6 th May Class 1 visited The Hawthorn
Study Centre on Southampton Common
and had a fantastic time. The children
played several exciting games one of
which involved being blindfolded and all
joining in a line to make a caterpillar.
The caterpillar then went on a discovery
walk. They were also able to search for
minibeasts in the churchyard and pond
and look for different coloured pieces of
wool in the trees to identify which were
easier to see.
Residential: Year 4 recently
went to Kingswood on the Isle of
Wight for a three day residential visit.
During their stay their developing
independence and self-confidence took
centre stage as the children took part in
abseiling, quad biking, archery and many
team challenges including a blindfolded
adventure trail! While most of the
activities were outdoor pursuits, there
was also an ICT element where the
children developed their own computer
animation game. They learned how to
write rules for their characters and
setting using special software.
Emma Froome said, “I never realised
how much I would like an obstacle
course. I really enjoyed how supportive
all my classmates were!”
Bradley Adams commented, “I learned
things about myself that I never knew I
could do.”
Springwatch in Class
2: Class 2 have their very own
springwatch w i t h a c a m e r a
strategically placed in a nesting box. For
two years we have waited for a bird to
take a fancy to the ready made home
and finally a little Nuthatch has decided
to call it her own! The male Nuthatch
kindly brought tree shavings, bark and
leaves into the nest and the female laid
several little eggs which she kept warm.
We were delighted when we saw the
first egg hatch and now at least six have
hatched and are all vying for mum and
dad’s attention to be fed, magical!
Netballers bring
home second trophy:
We took two teams to the Swanmore
and District Netball Tournament in
March to play against various schools
from the local area.
Our B Team managed to win a match
and draw a match and only lost one,
which was a great achievement
considering they were playing against
some teams that had much older players
in them.
Our A Team managed to win all their
matches and went on to victory in the
semi final and the final bringing back the
cup which had our name on in 2005,
2006, 2007 and now again in 2009!
What an awesome team, unbeaten all
season and what a fantastic result for
our little school!
Class 4 went to
Tw i c ke n h a m : O n
Wednesday 22 nd April Class 4 spent
the day in Twickenham watching the
BUCS Rugby Union Championship
Finals.
The women’s final was at 12.30pm and
the men’s was at 3pm. The children then
had the opportunity to have tea
together and visit the shop. It was a long
but very enjoyable day and a fantastic
experience for the children to be in such
a large stadium watching top quality
rugby.
This is an annual event for Class 4 and
this year seven parents came to help and
enjoy the experience as well.
