post-Hercynian basins in <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Alps,
Tuscany and Sardinia, Italy
An international Field Conference on <strong>the</strong> “Stratigraphy
and paleogeography <strong>of</strong> late- and post-Hercynian basins in <strong>the</strong>
Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Alps, Tuscany and Sardinia, Italy: comparisons with
o<strong>the</strong>r areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Western Mediterranean and geodynamic
hypo<strong>the</strong>ses” will be held at <strong>the</strong> Certosa di Pontignano near Siena,
Italy, between September 18 (Monday)–23 (Saturday), 2006. The
meeting includes a preliminary four days excursion, from sou<strong>the</strong>rn
Provence (Toulon) to northwest Tuscany (Mts. Pisani and Iano),
and two-day final oral and poster presentations. This is <strong>the</strong> first
announcement.

The next Non-marine Permian Meeting?
Given <strong>the</strong> tremendous success <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Non-marine meeting at
Albuquerque during October 2005, I think that SPS should
consider making this a regular event, perhaps on a four-year
rotation (2009?) or less. I would like to hear from members about
<strong>the</strong> timing and location for a second meeting. Given <strong>the</strong> location
<strong>of</strong> recent past and upcoming SPS sponsored meetings, I think one
location with ideal non-marine successions where SPS has not
met recently at least, is South Africa. O<strong>the</strong>r areas could include
nor<strong>the</strong>rn China, sou<strong>the</strong>rn Europe, South America, or back to <strong>the</strong>
southwest USA… Will someone come forward to chair such a
meeting.
