The recurring theme in notes of this
kind is the constant changing faces
within the Company, I will not bore you
with the details here but of particular
significance is the arrival of Minden
Platoon. A Platoon of volunteers from
The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion
The Royal Regiment of Scotland who
joined the Grenadiers for the overseas
exercise in Kenya and will remain with
the Battalion for the forthcoming
HERRICK tour. They are a most welcome
addition and are settling in to both the
Company and the Fort.
Whilst Fort George is a stunning
location it can feel a little remote
and confining, hence it is no surprise
that where possible members of the
Company have taken the opportunity
to venture further a field. As a result
the Grenadiers have been represented
in several continents over the past
few months. The Company enjoyed
immensely the extended visit of Lt E
Harris and Cpl Hill of 6 Royal Australian
Rifles on Ex LONG LOOK and hopes
that Australia was suitably impressed
with 2Lt O’Sulivan, Cpl Bavadra and Pte
Sandeman. Pte Laidlaw decided to put
off any real work for as long as possible
rolling out of Catterick and stowing
away on a yacht; taking in Gibraltar
and making it to Rio de Janeiro before
he was summoned back to do some
soldiering. LCpl McKenzie ‘swanned’ off
to the Red Sea for a bit of diving and
Cpl Sharp (who is coming to the end
of his 22 years service) squeezed one
last jolly out of the Army and went on a
football tour to America. The rest of the
Company, feeling a little left out, were
relieved to hear we would all be jetting
off on a six week deployment to Kenya.
Ex GRAND PRIX was an excellent
opportunity for the many new elements
of the Grenadiers to form and develop
into a tight-knit and effective Company.
Among many highlights of our time in
Pte Munjoma and LCpl Cassidy of the winning Caledonian challenge
Long Lookers, Lt Harris and Cpl Hill
