50 years—1963 Four Schools
The Classes of 1963 from Chaplain Kapaun Memorial,
Mount Carmel Academy, Sacred Heart and St Mary’s got
together over the weekend of September 27-29 for a fourschool
50-year reunion.
Friday evening found the alumni gathered at Hillside
Nursery in South Wichita for a casual mixer. Greg
McHenry, CKM ’63 was the host of the evening for the
alumni of all four schools.
Saturday afternoon found the alumni at KMC for a
campus guided tour at 3:00 pm, after which the group
got together at Rolling Hills Country Club for cocktails,
dinner and a sock hop, featuring music from the ‘50s and
‘60s.
Thanks to Greg McHenry, Dee Cartwright, CKM ’63 and
all those who helped to put the event together.
Thanks also to Bill Pinaire, CKM ’63 for providing the
photos shown here as well as those on the KMC website.
45 years—CKM Class of 1968
The Chaplain Kapaun Memorial Class of 1968 held their 45-year
reunion over the weekend of September 6-7. The reunion committee,
led by Tom Dondlinger ’68, included Marshall McHenry ’68, Chris
Moore ’68, Dan Legge ’68 and Richard Kroll ‘68.
On Friday night the class met for a stag evening at the home of Chris
Moore ’68. Saturday activities included a round of golf at the Wichita
Country Club in the afternoon, followed by a dinner with spouses at
the Flint Hills National Golf Club that evening.
The Chaplain Kapaun guys are already looking forward to the big 50th
reunion in 2018.
20 years—KMC Class of 1993
The KMC Class of 1993 held their 20-year reunion over the weekend
of July 26-27. The reunion was planned under the leader ship of Mary
Novascone ’93 Garretson and Megan Shawver ’93 Wright.
On Friday night, the class met at the Pumphouse in Old Town for a
party that began at 6:00 and lasted into the wee hours. After most of
the class slept in on Saturday morning, they headed over to KMC for a
campus guided tour. At 5:00, the alumni attended Sunday Mass at St.
Thomas Acquinas, celebrated by Fr. Dan Duling, KMC Chaplain, who
had just started his duties at KMC several weeks earlier. After Mass,
they headed to YaYa’s Euro Bistro for cocktails and a buffet dinner.
A slideshow of the class was shown, after which the class opened up its
time capsule to take a look at what they had left behind.
As far as we know, only the classes of 1993 and 1994 had actual time
capsules stored in the KMC basement. The class of 1994 will have the
chance to look at theirs next year.
Everyone is looking forward to 2018 when they celebrate their 25th
class reunion.
10 years—KMC Class of 2003
The Kapaun Mt. Carmel class of 2003 held their 10-year reunion over
the weekend of July 19-20. The events were expertly planned by a team
led by Megan Potter ’03 Metcalf and Rachel Schmeidler ’03 Farris.
On Friday night the class met at the Pumphouse for a reception and
drinks, originally scheduled from 7-10. Word has it that this group of
party animals closed the place down in the wee hours.
The festivities shifted to KMC on Saturday, beginning with a campus
tour at 4:30, followed by cocktails and dinner in the KMC commons.
The DJ on hand kept the party going into the wee hours again, and a
great time was had by all.
We want to extend our thanks to those members of the reunion
classes who stepped up to make their reunions not only possible, but
successful as well. Please join in thanking them, if you have not already
done so.
