The Anatomy Act, the amendments set out priorities as between spouses and<br />
common-law partners.<br />
Under amendments to The Vital Statistics Act, when a woman gives birth<br />
to a child through artificial insemination, the birth registration may, with the<br />
common-law partner’s consent, be completed showing the common-law partner<br />
as the father or other parent <strong>of</strong> the child. A consent can be submitted after the<br />
birth registration has been completed, but only to add the name <strong>of</strong> the<br />
common-law partner where that was originally left blank.<br />
