Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada<br />

appointed new Qatari Energy Minister<br />

Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada has been appointed<br />

Qatar’s new Minister of Energy and Industry, replacing<br />

Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, who held the position<br />

for over 18 years.<br />

The appointment was made on <strong>January</strong> 18. Al<br />

Attiyah, who was the second-longest serving <strong>OPEC</strong><br />

Oil and Energy Minister in the Organization’s 50-year<br />

history, has been appointed Head of the Amiri Diwan,<br />

the Emir of Qatar’s Court.<br />

The new incumbent, Al-Sada, who has also been<br />

appointed as Qatar Petroleum’s Managing Director<br />

and Chairman of the Board of Directors, was previously<br />

Minister of State for Energy and Industry Affairs,<br />

a position he had held since April 2007.<br />

To his new position, Al-Sada brings with him a<br />

wealth of experience with over 28 years of service<br />

with Qatar Petroleum, successfully managing various<br />

important corporate departments.<br />

Earlier, Al-Sada was the Managing Director<br />

of Qatar’s RasGas Company and, with effect from<br />

<strong>February</strong> 24, became the Chairman of the RasGas<br />

Board of Directors.<br />

He previously held the position of Technical<br />

Director at Qatar Petroleum where he directed major<br />

oil and gas schemes and related infrastructure<br />

projects.<br />

Within the energy industry, Al-Sada is the<br />

Chairman of the Board of the Qatar Chemicals Company (Q-Chem),<br />

QatarGas, the Qatar International Petroleum Marketing Company<br />

(TASWEEQ), Qatar Petroleum International (QPI) and ASTAD Project<br />

Management. He is also the Vice-Chairman of the Board for the<br />

Qatar Steel Company.<br />

Al-Sada is an active member of the Qatari community and has<br />

served as a member of several distinguished committees and<br />

organizations, including the Permanent Constitution Preparation<br />

Committee, the Supreme Education Council and the National<br />

Committee for Human Rights.<br />

He is currently Chairman of the Joint Advisory Board, Texas A<br />

& M University in Qatar.<br />

Al-Sada, who holds a PhD from the University of Manchester<br />

Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), in the United<br />

Kingdom, earlier graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree<br />

in Marine Science and Geology from Qatar University. He is married<br />

with two daughters and three sons.<br />
