appointed Chair <strong>of</strong><br />

CMAG<br />

The<br />

Commonwealth<br />

Ministerial Action<br />

Group (CMAG) held<br />

its thirty-seventh meeting<br />

in London on 16 April,<br />

<strong>2012</strong>. This was <strong>the</strong> Group’s<br />

first regular meeting<br />

following its reconstitution<br />

by Commonwealth Heads<br />

<strong>of</strong> Government at <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

Meeting in Perth in October<br />

2011.<br />

The meeting was attended<br />

by Senator <strong>the</strong> Hon Bob Carr,<br />

Minister <strong>for</strong> Foreign Affairs <strong>of</strong><br />

Australia; Hon Dr Dipu Moni,<br />

Minister <strong>of</strong> Foreign Affairs <strong>of</strong><br />

Bangladesh; Hon John Baird,<br />

Minister <strong>for</strong> Foreign Affairs <strong>of</strong><br />

Canada; Hon AJ Nicholson,<br />

Minister <strong>of</strong> Foreign Affairs and<br />

Foreign Trade <strong>of</strong> Jamaica; Hon<br />

Bernard K Membe, Minister<br />

<strong>for</strong> Foreign Affairs<br />

and International<br />

Cooperation <strong>of</strong><br />

Tanzania; Hon<br />

Dr Surujrattan<br />

Rambachan,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n Minister <strong>of</strong><br />

Foreign Affairs and<br />

Communications<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Trinidad</strong> and<br />

<strong>Tobago</strong>; Hon Alfred Carlot,<br />

Minister <strong>of</strong> Foreign Affairs <strong>of</strong><br />

Vanuatu; and Hon Ebun Jusu,<br />

Deputy Minister <strong>of</strong> Foreign<br />

Affairs and International<br />

Cooperation <strong>of</strong> Sierra Leone.<br />

Among <strong>the</strong> items on <strong>the</strong><br />

agenda was <strong>the</strong> vote <strong>for</strong> CMAG<br />

Chair and Vice-Chair. The Hon<br />

Dr Surujrattan Rambachan,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n Minister <strong>of</strong> Foreign<br />

Affairs <strong>of</strong> <strong>Trinidad</strong> and <strong>Tobago</strong><br />

was unanimously voted in as<br />

CARICOM <strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong>ers<br />

its Chair; and Hon Bob Carr,<br />

Minister <strong>for</strong> Foreign Affairs <strong>of</strong><br />

Australia as its Vice-Chair.<br />

Un<strong>for</strong>tunately <strong>Trinidad</strong><br />

and <strong>Tobago</strong> automatically<br />

relinquished <strong>the</strong> CMAG Chair<br />

when <strong>the</strong> Honorable Minister<br />

was reassigned to <strong>the</strong> Ministry<br />

<strong>of</strong> Local Government.<br />

On May 3rd <strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong>er Nicholas<br />

facilitated a meeting between <strong>the</strong><br />

CARICOM <strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong>ers and<br />

Ambassador Lorne T McDonnough CD, CEO <strong>of</strong><br />

CARICOM Development Fund (CDF). The purpose<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> meeting was to brief <strong>the</strong> CARICOM Caucus<br />

in London on <strong>the</strong> CDF’s resource mobilisation<br />

ef<strong>for</strong>ts.<br />

Among those in attendance were: Mrs Linda<br />

Brice, Acting <strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong>er, <strong>High</strong><br />

<strong>Commission</strong> <strong>for</strong> St Lucia,<br />

Mrs Joan Thomas-Edwards, Deputy <strong>High</strong><br />

<strong>Commission</strong>er, <strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> <strong>for</strong> Jamaica,<br />

and Mr. Euclid Goodman, Minister-Counsellor,<br />

<strong>High</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> <strong>for</strong> Barbados<br />
