Speaker Biographies/Information<br />
Clifton Mitchell, Ph.D.<br />
Dr. Clifton Mitchell received his Ph.D. <strong>in</strong> Counsel<strong>in</strong>g Psychology from Indiana State University and he is currently a professor at<br />
East Tennessee State University. He is <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> hypnosis, m<strong>in</strong>d‐body connections to health, weight loss, smok<strong>in</strong>g cessation, and<br />
the <strong>in</strong>credible <strong>in</strong>fluence that words and language have on our lives. His ideas and writ<strong>in</strong>gs have been published <strong>in</strong> Men’s Health Today,<br />
and Barron’s F<strong>in</strong>ancial Weekly, as well as <strong>in</strong> numerous professional journals. His research <strong>in</strong>cludes <strong>in</strong>vestigations of sublim<strong>in</strong>al message<br />
tapes, stress and cop<strong>in</strong>g, PMS, and personality styles. For the past 20 years Dr. Mitchell has offered keynote presentations at conventions<br />
and spoken to hundreds of bus<strong>in</strong>esses, leadership groups, and civic organizations on effective techniques for improv<strong>in</strong>g communications<br />
and for creat<strong>in</strong>g change through an understand<strong>in</strong>g of how the m<strong>in</strong>d works. Dr. Mitchell’s teach<strong>in</strong>gs and programs have also been used<br />
<strong>in</strong> Tennessee’s Families First welfare reform <strong>in</strong>itiative to empower women to develop the skills and attitudes necessary for major life<br />
changes.<br />

Alick Moody<br />
Alick Moody has more than 25 years experience <strong>in</strong> juvenile justice and human services. He is currently employed by the Department<br />
of <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> as a Probation Supervisor with the Richmond Court Service Unit’s Southside Probation Unit. In addition to his<br />
daily operational and supervisory responsibilities, Mr. Moody has been active <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Juvenile</strong> Detention Alternatives Initiative and<br />
co-chairs weekly meet<strong>in</strong>gs of the group’s Detention Review Committee. As part of his <strong>in</strong>volvement with Richmond’s detention reform<br />
<strong>in</strong>itiative, he has served as a Virg<strong>in</strong>ia delegate to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s National <strong>JDAI</strong> Inter-Site Conference. Mr. Moody<br />
is a member of the Virg<strong>in</strong>ia <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> Association (VJJA), hav<strong>in</strong>g previously served on the Board of Directors as Vice President.<br />
Additionally, he was honored by the group <strong>in</strong> 1980 when he was awarded the VJJA Meritorious Award <strong>in</strong> the Area of Adm<strong>in</strong>istration.<br />
Mr. Moody formerly served as a member of the Virg<strong>in</strong>ia <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> and Deliqnuency Prevention Advisory Committee, now the<br />
Advisory Committee on <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong>. Mr. Moody received a Bachelor of Arts degree <strong>in</strong> Sociology at Virg<strong>in</strong>ia State University. The<br />
father of four, he enjoys music and garden<strong>in</strong>g. Mr. Moody and his wife make their home <strong>in</strong> Var<strong>in</strong>a.<br />

Kev<strong>in</strong> Moran<br />
Kev<strong>in</strong> Moran has been employed <strong>in</strong> the juvenile justice field for more than 35 years. He retired from fulltime employment <strong>in</strong> 2005,<br />
after serv<strong>in</strong>g 20 years as the Director of the Norfolk Court Service. Mr. Moran is currently employed as the <strong>JDAI</strong> Coord<strong>in</strong>ator <strong>in</strong><br />
the City of Norfolk. He has been <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> all facets of the <strong>in</strong>itiative. As part of his <strong>in</strong>volvement with Norfolk’s detention reform<br />
<strong>in</strong>itiative, Mr. Moran has served as a Virg<strong>in</strong>ia delegate to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s National <strong>JDAI</strong> Inter-Site Conference. Mr.<br />
Moran is a member of the Virg<strong>in</strong>ia <strong>Juvenile</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> Association (VJJA). He was honored by the group <strong>in</strong> 1988 when he was awarded<br />
