6 Tour de Bretagne – Jersey 2010 Food and craft The cycling will, of course, be the main attraction when the Tour de Bretagne comes to the Island, but on the second day of the event, Sunday 25 April, there will be a second reason for going out to view the race. On Gorey Common – which will be close to the action – a food and craft village will be set up, offering a wide variety of produce to eat and drink and a range of stalls showcasing the work of craftsmen and women. There will also be live music, including a performance by the Band of the Island of Jersey, street theatre and an appearance of the Jersey Heritage Trust’s Goodwyfe, who will be riding a bicycle dating back to the German Occupation. Food to eat while you soak up the atmosphere will include seafood platters, Jersey ice-cream, milk shakes and smoothies, Jersey Royals, French sausages, Genuine Jersey sausages, barbecued oysters, crêpes, panninis, Swedish specialities, pastries, jams and chutneys, cakes, hot-dogs, sandwiches, soup and coffee. A hog roast, meanwhile, is bound to capture attention as well as sending out enticing aromas. The craft stalls will feature, among other things, jewellery, knitted goods, hand-made textiles, pottery, children’s ceramics, and photographic arts. Please help keep the Tour de Bretagne Cycle Race free of incident by respecting the following simple guidelines: • Listen to the instructions of the Stewards and Honorary Police • Choose a safe place to stand (see map for suggested viewing areas) • Do not stand on the road • Do not cross the road whilst the race is in sight • Please keep children under supervision and pets on leads • Please respect the residents’ gardens and other private property • Do not block approach roads as emergency vehicles may need to gain access to them • Please note the race will pass by more than once – there will be no movement permitted between each circuit • Please refer to the road closure times – during these periods of safety of the public and the competitors. It is dangerous to be on any part of the course without the consent of the organisers.
