the bottom of the F5 and F55:<br />

three ⅜-16 (⅜" diameter, 16 threads to the inch)<br />
three ¼ - 20<br />
⅜-16 is industry standard, and essential when adding<br />
anything more than a lightweight prime lens.<br />
But ¼-20 can be very helpful when Air Katmandu<br />
has lost your luggage (of course you hand-carried the<br />
camera) and the only tripod available in Tengboche is<br />
a long-abandoned, battered still tripod cast off <strong>by</strong> tired<br />
trekkers.<br />
