The Creative Arts at King’s
Events
A plethora of artistic events this term has showcased the
impressive talents of King’s High pupils. The Summer Concert and
Key Stage 3 Concert included a wide variety of music from
classical to contemporary and gave the audience the opportunity
of seeing at first-hand the high standard of music in place at King’s.
Summer
Concert
The much-anticipated Dance Concert at the end of the Spring
Term did not disappoint as parents, teachers and governors were
treated to a great display of modern and classical pieces, most of
which included elements of the girls’ own work.
An exhibition displaying Art and DT examination work took place
in the newly-refurbished Creative Arts Centre. This was an
opportunity to see all the hard work done by students during
their examination courses. Over 120 people attended and
visitors praised the range of work on show, from traditional
painting and drawing, to mixed media, installation and video.
Foundation Wind Orchestra
The Foundation Wind Orchestra, made up of pupils from King’s High School
and Warwick School, was awarded the highest accolade of platinum at this
year’s National Concert Band Finals held at the Adrian Boult Concert Hall and
Recital Hall in Birmingham.
Over 120 bands participated in this prestigious national festival and Simon
Hogg, Director of Music at Warwick School, said: “This is an incredible
achievement for the musicians”.
Annie
This year’s Key Stage 3 production of
“Annie” was a real triumph with a
heart-felt performance by Ronay Poole
as the lead. Every member of the cast
played their part with passion and
conviction; the sets and costumes were
equal to those you would see in a West
End production and the orchestra
played beautifully holding the whole
performance together perfectly.
Limited space prohibits mentioning the
individual performances of every single
member of the cast, backstage crew
and band. However, they can be secure
in the knowledge that they did
themselves, their peers, Ms Whitehouse
and Mrs Jones (in her final production at
King’s) proud. It really was a great night
out – thank you girls.
