Flinton
Flinton was the area’s first recorded settlement in 1840,
even prior to Leichhardt’s journey in 1847. It has been the
home of the famous Flinton Races held every Easter and is
one of the oldest bush races in Australia. The races have
been running since 1912 and have long been dubbed the
‘Melbourne Cup of the West’.

Westmar
Westmar is a small town at the crossroads of the Moonie
Highway and the Meandarra-Talwood Road. The Andersen
brothers, owners of Western and Maranoa Transport
companies, opened a fuel depot and rest stop for their
trucks at this intersection. The name Westmar was derived
from WESTern and MARanoa Transport.
Hannaford

Hannaford was originally called Red Hill. It was later
renamed Hannaford, after a prominent settler of the area,
Samuel Hannaford.
