"What about the rest of the puzzle?" asked the Gryphon.<br />

"Oh, yes!" remembered <strong>Alice</strong>. "Well, at this stage the Hatter has<br />

eight and the March Hare has four. Now, they finally have the same<br />

number, which must be six. So the Hatter has got to give two more<br />

tarts to the March Hare. So the answer to the puzzle is two."<br />

"Bravo!" said the Gryphon. "You see, I was right; you didn't need<br />

no algebra!"<br />

"This is extremely interesting," said <strong>Alice</strong>. "Could you give me<br />

another?"<br />

HOW MANY? "Now that's what I call a good pupil!" said the<br />

Gryphon. "Surely I'll give you another. The principle is now a little<br />

different, but I'm sure you'll get it.<br />

"This time the Hatter, the March Hare, and the Dormouse are all<br />

having a tea party together, and the Dormouse is quite awake, and<br />
