Central Queensland
Schools Rowing
Championships
Tough and windy conditions met rowers at this
year’s Central Queensland Schools Rowing
Championships held at Bucca on Saturday 18 and
Sunday 19 June 2011. Many of St Luke’s athletes
were able to handle the conditions well to progress
through to the finals and eventually win 8 medals.
Demi Pressler-McHugh led the way winning gold in
the Under 16 Girls Single Sculls and then paired up
with twin sister Emma Pressler-McHugh to take
first place in the Year 10 Girls Double Sculls. The
Pressler-McHugh twins teamed up with Melanie
Schmeider, Alexandrea Franks and Sarah Dimes
to finish a close second in the Year 10 Girls Quad
Sculls. Melanie Schmeider went on to place third in
the Under 17 Girls Single Sculls while Alexandrea
Franks and Sarah Dimes also finished third in the
Year 10 Girls Double Scull. Emma
Pressler-McHugh placed second in the Year 10
Girls Single Sculls. Benjamin White and Ryan
Chivers combined well to place second in the hotly
contested Year 8 Boys Double Sculls and Rick
Bennett progressed strongly through the heats and
semi-finals to win the bronze medal in the Under 15
Boys Single Sculls. St Luke’s rowers will now
prepare themselves for the South Queensland
Schools Championships in July and Queensland
Schools Championships in September.
Basketball
Congratulations to Nathan Marsh who attended the
State Basketball Championships at Boondall. The Wide
Bay team did very well against tough competition from
teams all over Queensland. Nathan gained selection as
a shadow player for the State team which is outstanding.
