Complete ‘Digital
Ship’ software now
available
Software solutions provider AVEVA has begun to market its information management
software package AVEVA ET to shipowners, operators and managers.
Already established in the oil and
gas, plus the shipbuilding sector,
the latter through ship design and
construction software, the system
can offer a complete support system for a
vessel’s lifecycle from the concept, through
the design stage, construction, through
maintenance and refits to the vessel’s final
decommissioning/recycling. In other words –
from the cradle to the grave.
The idea is to bring together all the
information needed for every component and
workflow on board throughout a vessel’s life
thus recreating the physical and operating
properties of the vessel as a complete
‘digital ship’.
AVEVA NET can bring together all the
documents and data associated with the vessel
and the equipment fitted on board to provide a
complete unified digital profile of the vessel.
The information can be made available on
board, in a management office, or elsewhere
where necessary.
For example, real time engine room data
would sit alongside maintenance schedules
and other relevant information.
Another example cited by AVEVA, was the
case of a bilge pump, which can appear as a
3D image, imported from the original vessel
design software.
All kinds of information associated with a
particular individual piece of equipment, such
as the bilge pump, can be listed. These include –
Supplier’s website.
Heat rating.
Peak performance characteristics.
Scanned hard copy depicting the results of
last service.
List of qualified engineers for the pump
series.
Workpack tool to enable any procedure
that needs to be carried out on the pump to
be automatically sent to the correct
personnel, etc.
All the necessary details relating to a pump can be shown digitally.
The software can also automatically identify
which pipe is associated with a particular
pump and valve, also including the relevant
information. It can also flag up when this
documentation is incomplete, or when items
are missing from the standard technical
data associated with a particular pipe, or
other objects.
Interlinking objects
AVEVA claimed that this initiative allows an
understanding of how objects are interlinked
and the effect that any changes will have upon
them simultaneously. It also gives a sense of
reliability and quality to the data, which helps
further decision making concerning a
particular piece of equipment, such as a pump,
or pipe system, the company said.
Subject to the right of access, all the
information is visible and manageable across
multiple locations, such as on board ship and
ashore. The company claimed that it was also
no longer necessary to search individual
applications and data stores for information,
or to have the original authoring applications,
which originally created the pump.
Vast quantities of information of all kinds
can be housed in the software from many
different sources and in many different
formats, while the software can help ensure
that the correct personnel have access to it and
furthermore act upon it as necessary.
Information can be organised, controlled
and automatically cross-referenced and
delivered through an intuitive interface, the
company said. What is claimed to be unique
with AVEVA NET is its ability to identify
information inconsistencies, as well as
missing data, which helps to provide more
transparent support in the decision making
process and thus enhancing vessel safety and
efficiency of operation.
