SELECTED <strong>NYU</strong> GALLATIN AWARDS AND HONORS APPLICATION DEADLINES BY DATE, 2012-‐2013 <br />
original research, a written assessment <strong>of</strong> a community-‐learning initiative, or an artistic project <br />
(such as design-‐based work, art exhibit, or theatrical production) accompanied by an analytic essay <br />
(comprising artistic background, aims, and technique). Completed Senior Projects are graded by <br />
faculty mentors and can be nominated for Honors. For May 2013 graduates, proposals are due by <br />

The 4 th annual TEDx <strong>Gallatin</strong> Senior Symposium is an intellectual showcase <strong>of</strong> <strong>Gallatin</strong> seniors’ <br />
concentrations based on the rationale and colloquium. The event will take place at 6:30 pm on <br />
Thursday, April 18, 2013, featuring a select group <strong>of</strong> seniors’ presentations reflecting on the unique <br />
insights and explorations <strong>of</strong> the senior process. If you wish to present, submit a brief (250-‐500 <br />
word) abstract <strong>of</strong> your presentation by February 15, 2013. If you would like to join the student <br />
organizing committee, or if you have any further questions, email meredith.theeman@nyu.edu. <br />
The 4 th Annual <strong>Gallatin</strong> Student Research Conference is an opportunity for outstanding <strong>Gallatin</strong> <br />
students to present their work alongside faculty on thematically-‐organized panels. 2012 recipients <br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Gallatin</strong> <strong>awards</strong> (such as the Dean’s Award for Summer Research) and members <strong>of</strong> scholars <br />
groups are expected to participate. Students considering graduate school are especially <br />
encouraged to attend. <strong>Gallatin</strong> students at all stages in their education are welcome to apply. The <br />
conference will take place on Friday, April 19, 2013. If you wish to present, submit a brief (250-‐500 <br />
word) abstract <strong>of</strong> your presentation by February 15, 2013. If you would like to join the student <br />

The <strong>Gallatin</strong> Dean’s Award for Summer Research (DASR) was created to encourage advanced <br />
<strong>Gallatin</strong> undergraduates to pursue an original research or creative project related to their <br />
concentration. The Dean’s Award for Summer Research provides a stipend <strong>of</strong> up to $2,500 to <br />
support projects carried out over the summer months. Applicants must be rising or current juniors <br />
with at least one semester remaining at <strong>NYU</strong> at the time <strong>of</strong> application. In accepting a grant, the <br />
student gives permission to publish the project abstract online and/or in print. Applications for <br />
summer 2013 proposals are due by March 1, 2013. <br />

The <strong>Gallatin</strong> Dean’s Award for Graduating Seniors is designed to fund original research or <br />
creative projects pursued after graduation that are related to students’ academic concentrations or <br />
senior colloquia. Awards range from $500 to $2,000. For January 2013 graduates, applications are <br />
due by December 1, 2012. For May 2013 graduates, applications are due by April 1, 2013. <br />

Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) is the nation’s oldest academic honor society. Students do not apply to PBK; <br />
graduating seniors are elected by members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>NYU</strong> Chapter. <strong>Gallatin</strong> students who are <br />
committed to a broad liberal arts education and wish to be considered for PBK should aspire to <br />
meet the criteria for nomination, which include extremely strong academic performance in at least <br />
one semester <strong>of</strong> college math, two semesters <strong>of</strong> college science (with a lab component), and foreign <br />
language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency (through the Intermediate II level). Seniors will be notified by late April 2013 <br />
if they are nominated and soon thereafter if they are elected. www.pbk.org <br />
<strong>Gallatin</strong>’s Dean’s Honor Society (DHS) and Americas Scholars (AS) are co-‐curricular communities <br />
that involve bi-‐weekly discussions <strong>of</strong> readings and scholarly travel. Invitations to apply will be sent <br />
by email to rising juniors and seniors (expecting to graduate in 2014 and 2015) with a GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.8 <br />
and above in late April 2013 for participation in the 2013-‐2014 academic year. Contact <br />
