very clear channel is exposed under the<br />

Kato Conglomerate. It is filled with about<br />

20m wide coarse conglomerates and<br />

located <strong>in</strong>side the calcareous shale <strong>of</strong><br />

sediment <strong>of</strong> HST <strong>of</strong> the lower sequence<br />

(Photo 2). The layers <strong>of</strong> the conglomerate<br />

p<strong>in</strong>ch out rapidly aga<strong>in</strong>st the channel wall<br />

and <strong>in</strong> some cases change to sandstone on<br />

the paleo flood pla<strong>in</strong>. The p<strong>in</strong>ch<strong>in</strong>g out<br />

give the conglomerate lensoidal form.<br />

The channel shows at least two stages<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>cision at different levels. The lower<br />

level is narrower than the upper one<br />

(Photo 2.1 shows channel below the<br />

valley). They represent the depth reached<br />

by the stream dur<strong>in</strong>g consecutive and<br />

fall<strong>in</strong>g by coarse sediment <strong>in</strong> late lowstand<br />

system tract when the sea level gradually<br />

rises .The streams were, most possibly, <strong>of</strong><br />

braided type by which the thick pile <strong>of</strong><br />

Kato conglomerate is laid down dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

late LST.<br />

Sediment fill <strong>of</strong> the <strong>in</strong>cised valleys<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g TST<br />

At southwestern side <strong>of</strong> Kato Mounta<strong>in</strong><br />

there are abnormal occurrence <strong>of</strong> 50m <strong>of</strong><br />

red layers (red beds), which are composed<br />

<strong>of</strong> red claystones and sandstone with<br />

<strong>in</strong>tercalation <strong>of</strong> some th<strong>in</strong> bed <strong>of</strong><br />

conglomerate (Photo5.5). These layers are<br />

called “Kato Red Layers”. These layers<br />
