position of director of the KWVA<br />

for the term 2004-2007.<br />

I have been a national director<br />

in the KWVA.<br />

I have been a community leader<br />

in the County of Suffolk N.Y. for<br />

the last forty five years.<br />

I was introduced to community<br />

service in 1941 when I became a<br />

Boy Scout. When I was 18 years<br />

old I began a career as a professional boxer. My career ended<br />

when I was drafted into the army.<br />

I had 14 weeks of Infantry Training at Indiantown Gap,Pa.<br />

<strong>and</strong> was sent to Korea where I was assigned to the 772nd M.P.<br />

Bn. I was awarded the Soldiers Medal for Valor on June 29th,<br />

1952.<br />

I also have the N.Y. State Conspicuous Service Cross, the<br />

Military Merit Badge. <strong>and</strong> the Japanese Occupation Medal.<br />

I am one of the founders of the Central Long Isl<strong>and</strong><br />

Chapter. I have been the Pres. of this chapter since 1989.<br />

I am a life member of the V.F.W. <strong>and</strong> the International<br />

Narcotic <strong>Officers</strong> <strong>Association</strong>.<br />

The Central Long Chapter has it’s own office <strong>and</strong> telephone<br />

number listed under The <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> <strong>Veterans</strong> Assoc. Central<br />

L.I. Chapter.<br />

If I am elected I will attend all meeting of the Executive<br />

Council. I will want the <strong>National</strong> Organization to help chapters<br />

<strong>and</strong> State Depts. financially when they put on a big event,<br />

limited to promoting the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> Veteran.<br />

Help find closure for the families of MIA’s <strong>and</strong> POW’s that<br />

did not return. I will have every elected <strong>National</strong> Officer, <strong>and</strong><br />

every Chapter <strong>and</strong> State Dept. Pres./Comm<strong>and</strong>er sent a<br />

monthly bank statement on request.<br />

I will keep on working hard to put the <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> in it’s<br />

proper place in history.<br />

This letter will serve as my<br />

intention to run for office as a<br />

Director for the period 2004-2007.<br />

I present for your review the<br />

following qualifications for this<br />

office. I am a Veteran of the<br />

<strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> <strong>and</strong> also a life member<br />

of KWVA. I believe in the purposes<br />

<strong>and</strong> goals of KWVA <strong>and</strong><br />

would like to help promote this<br />

work.<br />

I am also a life member of the VFW <strong>and</strong> a life member of<br />

the American Legion. I am also active in the 14th Combat<br />

Engineer Battalion <strong>Association</strong>, serving presently as<br />

Treasurer.<br />

Some of my life experiences that I think would be valuable<br />

for this position are:<br />

1- Long time active member of Bridgewater United<br />

Methodist Church. I have served as Chairman of the<br />

Administrative Board, Chairman of the Building Committee<br />

during a recent major building program. I am currently serving<br />

as Chairman of the Board of Trustees since 1989.<br />

2 - Have been a member of Bridgewater Ruritan Club since<br />

1956. I served as President of this club in 1977.<br />

3 - Graduate of Harrisonburg Business College in 1956,<br />

majoring in Accounting.<br />

4 - Started my own farm equipment business in 1964 <strong>and</strong><br />

built a successful business that is now operated by my sons.<br />

5 - Served on Board of <strong>Directors</strong> for Virginia Equipment<br />

Dealers <strong>Association</strong> from 1965 to 1992. Served as President<br />

of this state-wide organization in 1973.<br />

6 - Elected to Board of <strong>Directors</strong> of North American<br />

Equipment Dealers <strong>Association</strong> in 1978. Was elected<br />

President of this organization in 1990. This organization represents<br />

dealer’s interest in legislation <strong>and</strong> industry relations in<br />

the U.S. <strong>and</strong> Canada.<br />

7 - Elected to the Board of <strong>Directors</strong> of the local Habitat for<br />

Humanity Chapter in 1994. Was elected President of this<br />

Chapter <strong>and</strong> served two terms in that office.<br />

8 - In 1973 I helped found a new Bank in our area <strong>and</strong><br />

served on that Board from the start until December 2003. This<br />

Bank was merged into a larger Bank two times during this<br />

period.<br />

My wife Reba <strong>and</strong> I have been married for 52 years. Our<br />

family consists of 3 sons, 5 gr<strong>and</strong>children <strong>and</strong> 4 great-gr<strong>and</strong>children.<br />

I am fully retired from my business, <strong>and</strong> if elected, I<br />

have the time <strong>and</strong> energy to devote to this office.<br />

My goals are to work for a<br />

strong KWVA by listening to all<br />

members, treating them equally<br />

<strong>and</strong> fair, <strong>and</strong> safeguarding our<br />

finances. Furthermore, I believe<br />

common sense is the answer to<br />

most of our problems. I will also<br />

work for our <strong>National</strong> Charter from the United States<br />

Congress, <strong>and</strong> to strengthen the Tell America program so our<br />

gr<strong>and</strong>children will know what we accomplished over there.<br />

My qualifications for this position are organizing KWVA<br />
