The Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Unit warms up at Atlantic City<br />
presented with a framed certificate of appreciation from Chapter 53,<br />
and a $500.00 check for his future education. This young man is<br />
planning to attend West Point; his ambition is to become an officer<br />
in the 75th Ranger Regiment.<br />
KWVA Taejon Chapter 170 provided a Color Guard, and the<br />
Essex County Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Unit performed. Col.<br />
Steve Abel, USA (ret), the Deputy Commissioner of <strong>Veterans</strong><br />
Affairs for New Jersey, presented <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> Commemorative<br />
Medals.<br />
The name of Pvt. Norman Carbray was added to the New<br />
Jersey’s Wall of Honor. Pvt. Carbray was killed on September 28,<br />
1951, while serving with the 31st Regiment of the 7th Division.<br />
New Jersey’s Wall of Honor contains the name of 836 state heroes.<br />
Chapters and individuals presented wreaths and flowers at the<br />
Wall of Honor as the bagpipes played “amazing Grace” and “The<br />
Lone Bugler.” 1st Sgt. Richard Pinter played Taps.<br />
On Saturday, July 23, 2005, a large number of our members met<br />
at Bear Creek Park, outside Houston, TX, to commemorate the 52nd<br />
anniversary of the <strong>Korean</strong> Armistice. Dignitaries from the <strong>Korean</strong><br />
community and the Consul General Office spoke of the changes<br />
made in South Korea during the past fifty years. They gave thanks<br />
to the U.S. for the assistance that the American military and government<br />
gave them.<br />
A large group of <strong>Korean</strong>s from the Spring Branch Community<br />
Church put on a traditional harvest dance. They were dressed in<br />
native costumes, complete with drums, gongs, and twirling head tassels.<br />
Several members gave talks about their experiences in Korea<br />
during the war and the campaigns in which they participated.<br />
The Lone Star Chapter Color Guard, with its members dressed in<br />
Class A uniforms, posted and retired the colors for the event.<br />
Members included Commander Henry Martinez and Asst.<br />
Commander Lee Henderson.<br />

gifts to veterans at the Northport <strong>Veterans</strong> Hospital in Northport<br />
