Taverner and Charlotte feature in Griffith’s Valuation for Limerick. William held property in Farrenshone and the previous Taverners of Farrenshone were Thomas and his wife Frances M’Alister. Were these two William’s parents?). (The Limerick Chronicle carries the death of Catherine, the widow of Major Fitzmayer, R.A. at her daughters house, Stonetown, North Strand, Limerick on the 2 nd Dec 1871. She was buried in St Munchin’s. She was also the mother of “the present” General Sir James Fitzmayer. C.B. Charlotte, Catherine’s daughter had died in 1856 and Sir James Fitzmayer’s wife Jane Louisa had died in 1859, she being Catherine’s daughter-in-law. Catherine had a daughter also called Catherine but she died at her mothers house in Camberwell, London in 1840. So who was the daughter in whose house Catherine died?) Griffith’s Valuation. This gives a Charlotte Taverner holding No 11 Ferry Cottage [North Strand] from Elizabeth Vereker. House and yard valued at £8-10-0. ========================= St. Munchin’s Churchyard.
9 Sacred to the memory of W.E.Taverner who departed this life 11 March 1819, aged 31yrs. Also his wife Sophia Doherty who died 21 Sept 1836. Also their daughter Anna Frances Taverner who died 14 July 1917. (This transcription is unfortunately full of errors. W.E.Taverner should read W.F.Taverner. His date of death couldn’t be in 1819 as he only married in 1837, perhaps it should read 1849. His widow Charlotte Sophia who married as her 2 nd husband John Doherty, died on the 21 Sept 1856 and not on the 21 Sept 1836. However it is easy to understand bad transcriptions when one bears in mind the condition of most old Tombstones). Charlotte Sophia was the sister of Catherine Howard Fitzmayer who died in London in 1840, 2 nd daughter, and Anne Howard Fitzmayer who died in Limerick in 1848, 1 st daughter, and Sir James William Fitzmayer who died in England in 1895 having been born in Guyana in 1813. He was knighted for his actions in the Crimean War. James William married first, Jane Louisa Lane in 1841 but she died in 1859. Jacob Taverner = John Taverner = Rachell Brooks Samuel M. 1727. Quakers D. 1771 D. 06/05/1769 in London Miss Rachael Taverner John Faylee = Mary Taverner D. May 1758 M. June 1761 Quakers Quaker Records for the 30/11/1727 give John Taverner, the son of Jacob Taverner stating his intention to be joined in Matrimony with Rachell Brooks. The Limerick Chronicle and The Magazine of Magazines record the death on the 06/05/1769 of Rachel Taverner the wife of John Taverner. Quakers. (Their daughter also called Rachael, died in May 1758). ============================ Jacob Taverner = Joanna Limerick. Anna Taverner Quaker Minister Spinster. B.c. 1758. D. 01/08/1825 In Ballitore, Co. Kildare. Aged 67. Anna was supposed to have been an orphan who was schooled by an Aunt in London before she returned to Limerick in 1780, where she was a very active member of the Society of Friends. Mary Leadbeater describes her friend Anna in detail in her “Annals of Ballitore”.
