The closure is in effect in order to maintain the historical significance of Colonial NHP, to protect the<br />
park’s cultural <strong>and</strong> natural resources <strong>and</strong> to provide for <strong>public</strong> safety.<br />
E. Closures at the Colonial Parkway Tunnel: The tunnel on the Colonial Parkway under the Colonial<br />
Williamsburg Historic Area is closed to bicycles <strong>and</strong> pedestrians at all times.<br />
The closure is in effect to provide for <strong>public</strong> safety <strong>and</strong> to prevent accidents in the tunnel.<br />
F. Picnicking: The following areas are closed to picnicking:<br />
1. All areas of the Yorktown Battlefield with the exception of: the Beach Picnic Area, the lawn areas<br />
immediately adjacent to the Church Street parking lot, the parking areas <strong>and</strong> adjacent lawn areas at<br />
the Yorktown visitor center.<br />
2. All areas of Historic Jamestowne except the designated picnic areas near the bus parking lot <strong>and</strong><br />
the bus loading/unloading area at east end of the parking lot.<br />
3. All areas along the Colonial Parkway, except at pullouts along the Parkway.<br />
The closure is in effect in order to maintain the historical significance of Colonial NHP, to protect the<br />
park’s cultural <strong>and</strong> natural resources.<br />
G. Camping: All areas of the park are closed to camping.<br />
The closure is in effect in order to maintain the historical significance of Colonial NHP, to protect the<br />
park’s cultural <strong>and</strong> natural resources <strong>and</strong> beca<strong>use</strong> the park doesn’t have camping facilities available in<br />
the park. Local private, city <strong>and</strong> state campgrounds are located near the park.<br />
H. Horse <strong>and</strong> Pack Animals: The following areas are closed to horse <strong>and</strong> pack animals:<br />
(see attachments 1 & 2)<br />
1. The Colonial Parkway <strong>and</strong> adjacent areas.<br />
2. Any agricultural fields that are under production/lease.<br />
3. Riding on any paved portion of park roads, except to cross over the roads.<br />
4. All areas of Historic Jamestowne beyond the entrance gate.<br />
5. The Yorktown National Cemetery.<br />
6. Yorktown Battlefield, north of Route 238, <strong>and</strong> Ballard Street, <strong>and</strong> east of the Colonial Parkway <strong>and</strong><br />
Tobacco Road, east to the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Training Center.<br />

I. Pets: The Yorktown National Cemetery, described as the area within <strong>and</strong> enclosed by the brick wall at that<br />
location is closed to the possession of pets by park visitors. See also <strong>36</strong> CFR § 2.15 of this document<br />
.<br />
Closure in effect to maintain the honor <strong>and</strong> dignity of the national cemetery.<br />
J. Snowmobiles: The operation of snowmobiles in the park is prohibited. See also <strong>36</strong> CFR § 2.18 of this<br />
document.<br />
The closure is in effect to maintain the historical significance of Colonial NHP, to protect the park’s natural<br />
<strong>and</strong> cultural resources <strong>and</strong> to provide for <strong>public</strong> safety.<br />
