The scholarly products of our post-doctoral fellows
reveal another aspect of success in developing research
skills in an interdisciplinary fashion. Since 2004, the
12 post-doctoral fellows have co-authored 56 articles in
peer-reviewed journals. Some of the titles of these
articles, first-authored by the fellows, demonstrate the
range of issues under investigation:
• “Assessing barriers and facilitators to achieving
goals in overweight inner-city adolescents in a
weight management program (Alm, et al., in
Diabetes Educator)
• “Perceptions of health among immigrant Latino
adolescents from Mexico” (Garcia, et al., in Journal
of Holistic Nursing)
• “College students’ psychological well-being during
the transition to college: Examining individuation
from parents” (Kenyon, et al., in Journal of Counseling
Psychology)
• “Dieting advice from magazines—helpful or
harmful? Five year associations with weight-control
behaviors and psychological outcomes in adolescents”
(van den Berg, et al., Pediatrics)

Today we cross, with greater ease, the boundaries
that used to divide our Schools and our programs—
all in the name of interdisciplinary research aimed
at learning how to protect the health of young people.
