Structured Practical Training Committee
The Structured Practical Training (SPT) Committee is
an ad hoc subcommittee reporting to the Registration
Committee. The Committee’s mandate is to review and
make recommendations for changes to the College’s
training programs.
Major achievements for this year include:
Structured Training: The SPT program has provided
Canadian, U.S. and international students and interns
with opportunities to learn and practice skills in a structured
environment with trained preceptors.
The 4-week SPT studentship requirement was discontinued
for undergraduates from Canadian and U.S.
faculties of Pharmacy in March 2002. (It was no longer
necessary to include structured practical training at a
student level because these programs are accredited and
contain structured practical experience.) The 12-week
SPT internship requirement for Canadian and U.S. graduates
will remain unchanged.
As well, the 32-week studentship (16 weeks of academic
modules plus 16 weeks of structured practical training)
and the 16 week internship will continue for internationally
trained candidates.

International Pharmacy Graduate
Program: This academic program
was developed at the University
of Toronto’s Leslie Dan
Faculty of Pharmacy as a joint
project between the College,
the Faculty, and the Ministry of
Training, Colleges and
Universities, Access to Professions
and Trades Unit. In addition to the
Canadian Pharmacy Skills I & II Modules, the Program
also piloted prior learning assessment and mentorship
components this year.
Preceptor Training Workshops: New advanced workshops
on learning styles inventory and pharmaceutical
care were developed and launched this year.
