this year’s <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Readiness</strong><br />

<strong>Day</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> theme, with attendees<br />

having the opportunity to<br />

enjoy fantastic entertainment,<br />

pirates, face painting, a costume<br />

contest and great food.<br />

Most importantly, they will be<br />

able to access valuable information<br />

to enhance family<br />

readiness. Admission is FREE<br />

and open to all SOFA ID card<br />

holders island-wide.<br />

This year, attendees will<br />

have the opportunity to compete<br />

in a Pirate Costume<br />

Contest. This costume contest<br />

is open to all ages, whether you<br />

are a baby nibbling on a<br />

teething ring or the parent holding<br />

that baby. The only requirement<br />

is that participants must<br />

be dressed as pirates. Costumes<br />

will be judged by a panel of<br />

judges at 2:45 p.m., with prizes<br />

awarded to the best male and<br />

costumes in various age categories;<br />

winners in the ages 0-5<br />

category will receive a $100<br />

gift certificate, and winners in<br />

the 6 & up category will<br />

receive a bicycle.<br />

The <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Readiness</strong> <strong>Day</strong><br />

<strong>Expo</strong> features local elementary<br />

schools participating in the<br />

Christmas Banner Contest.<br />

Each participating elementary<br />

school will submit one banner,<br />

and the banners will be judged<br />

at 10:30 a.m. by a panel based<br />

Describing it as the best and largest<br />

bazaar on <strong>Okinawa</strong>, the Army<br />

and Air Force Exchange <strong>Service</strong><br />

has announced plans for a Holiday<br />

Bazaar Thanksgiving weekend.<br />

The November 23~25 extravaganza<br />

at the Camp Foster Field House will feature<br />

hundreds of items from more than<br />

15 countries, as dozens of vendors<br />

scramble to get a piece of the holiday<br />

season business. AAFES says the<br />

Holiday Bazaar is a ‘must attend’ event,<br />

because its 40+ vendors will be offering<br />

great gifts, great deals, and fun for the<br />

whole family.<br />

This year’s <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Readiness</strong> <strong>Day</strong> <strong>Expo</strong> theme is “Pirates of the<br />

to each school. The winning<br />

school will receive a free icecream<br />

party for the entire<br />

school. Each banner will be<br />

displayed on stage throughout<br />

the <strong>Expo</strong> so that attendees will<br />

hourly occurrence at the<br />

Various schools will be represented<br />

including the Kubasaki<br />

High School JROTC cheerleaders<br />

and Eisa dancers, and the<br />

Lester Middle School Choir.<br />

Also performing will be the<br />

Pacific <strong>Okinawa</strong> Players.<br />

The MCB Camp Butler<br />

Fire Department will be on<br />

hand with its fire truck, Marine<br />

& <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Service</strong>s will be dazzling<br />

families with calligraphy,<br />

and the Lifelong Learning<br />

Center will keep kids entertained<br />

with cool crafts. The<br />

2007 <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Readiness</strong> <strong>Day</strong><br />

<strong>Expo</strong> will also have a free<br />

Kiddie Land that includes facepainting,<br />

bouncies, and more.<br />

Food vendors will be available<br />

throughout the day, and there<br />

will be free ice cream available<br />

for all attendees. Last but not<br />

least, kids will have the photo<br />

opportunity of a lifetime by<br />

having their picture taken while<br />

walking the plank of a pirate<br />

ship, or standing alongside a<br />

pirate with a parrot perched on<br />

his or her shoulder.<br />
