SES and SAF-TE • short for "SCSI Enclosure Services" and "SCSI Accessed Fault-Tolerant Arrays" • they're needed for one main reason • SCSI does not support hot-plug without either one of these devices. in the above example the insertion of the disk in slot 1:9 would go undetected without an enclosure • also provide normal temp/volt/etc sensors
