BACK TO BASICS - A GENERAL INTRODUCTION, LOOKING
AT OUR BAPTISMAL VOWS.
In the New Liturgy of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the
Priest asks Parents and Godparents at baptism, to make a commitment
on behalf of the child, declaring absolute allegiance to Christ and
their total rejection of the devil and of all that is evil; then he
asks whether they are prepared to declare this allegiance and reject the
devil in the presence of God and members of His Church. To this they
reply that they renounce the devil and all his works. He then asks the
following questions committing them to renounce evil and profess the
Christian faith into which the children will be baptized, and within
which they are committing them to serve the Lord:

Do you renounce Satan and all the spiritual forces of
wickedness that rebel against God?

Do you renounce the evil powers of this world which

the love of God?
I do renounce them.
