Abstract TU9 is the network of the leading Institutes of Technology in Germany: RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin, TU Braunschweig, TU Darmstadt, TU Dresden, Leibniz Universität Hannover, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), TU München, Universität Stuttgart. The TU9 alliance provides information worldwide on studying engineering and science, thereby playing an important role in increasing the international competitiveness of the European Higher Education Area. Together, the TU9 universities follow a common internationalisation strategy, including joint marketing to students at international fairs and at German schools abroad, and running more than 100 master’s programmes in English. TU9 provides advice and decision-making support to prospective international students. Through its alumni network for students at German schools abroad (TU9 DANA), for example, it conveys an authentic impression of studying in Germany and offers self assessment for potential students, thus strengthening the appeal of studying in Europe and especially in Germany. ********************************************************************************** 1. Purpose TU9 is the network of the leading Institutes of Technology in Germany: RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin, TU Braunschweig, TU Darmstadt, TU Dresden, Leibniz Universität Hannover, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), TU München, Universität Stuttgart. The statutory role of TU9 is to “support young scientists and students, particularly through joint (...) international projects such as information about studying engineering and natural science (...)” Objectives In order to maintain and raise their high educational standards, the TU9 universities rely on excellent young scientists. The quality of the applicants is not dependent on their origins or nationality. The TU9 universities aim to intensify their recruitment of international young scientists in the STEM subjects, thus contributing to the international competitiveness of Europe in this area. Strategy The TU9 universities are offering more courses in English in order to attract prospective students worldwide. The TU9 alliance serves as a platform for joint international projects. The TU9 members already cooperate extremely successfully in marketing to international students. 1
Audiences We aim to attract the following international audiences through TU9 cooperation agreements and projects: - Talented international freshmen to a bachelor’s degree at a TU9 university, - International high achievers with a bachelor‘s degree to study for a master’s at a TU9 university, - International high achievers with a master‘s degree, to study for a doctorate at a TU9 university, - International doctoral students/postdocs to enhance research at TU9 universities. 2
