Art, auction, cuisine & pink cocktails benefiting
Lambie’s Legacy: The Margaret Lamb Guyton
Stout Fund & ProMedica Toledo Hospital Breast
Care’s Lammogram Program providing free
mammograms for those in need.

Dear Friends of Lambie’s Legacy,
Welcome to the 3rd annual Cocktails for the Cure. We’d like to thank everyone
for being here tonight. We have a lot to celebrate, as we remember our friend
Lambie Stout. Today, September 7th, we CELEBRATE the birthday of an
incredible woman who touched the hearts of many people throughout her life;
we CELEBRATE her determination and desire to live life to the fullest; and we
CELEBRATE her spirit of generosity and outreach. Lambie lost her six year
battle with cancer last September, but her legacy lives on as she continues to
bring people together to share the extraordinary moments of every day life.
The contributions you make tonight will support the foundation created
through the Toledo Community Foundation in Lambie’s name. Lambie’s
Legacy supports organizations that promote health awareness and cancer
research. This year, we are thrilled to partner with ProMedica Toledo Hospital
Breast Care Center to offer free mammograms, affectionately called
Lambograms, to the underinsured in our area.
Thank you ProMedica Toledo Hospital Foundation and ProMedica Toledo
Hospital Breast Care Center for your collaboration and support - special thanks
to our friend Mary Sabin for dreaming up the Lambogram Program, a program
Lambie herself would have been thrilled to support. In addition, we would like
to thank Leslie Chapman for leading the Corporate Sponsorship Campaign and
gaining the support of so many of you here tonight.
Thanks to our corporate sponsors and founding members, we have raised
over $75,000 even before this evening. This incredible support for Lambie’s
Legacy is a true testament to the importance of breast health services and an
overwhelming tribute to our dear friend Lambie who has inspired a community
to do amazing things!
We’d also like to thank Lambie’s Flock, a group of dedicated people who
helped create a mission and a vision for Lambie’s Legacy. So many of them
have volunteered their time to honor our friend and this very important cause.
We could not have done this without their help. Please see page 20 for a list of
their names.
And finally thank you to Brian Kennedy and the Toledo Museum of Art for
allowing us to utilize this beautiful space to hold our event and encouraging
us to link health awareness to art, inspiring tonight’s “Faces and Traces” exhibit
(pg 12).
Please enjoy dinner and drinks in the courtyard while you review tonight’s
program; visit our “Lamb Shop” for your Lambie’s Legacy gear; and be sure
to check out the live demonstrations in the Hot Shop. As you review the
items for tonight’s auction, you will notice several group packages that bring
people together to share unique and fun experiences. We hope that you enjoy
tonight’s program and find something great to share with the special people
in your life.
Your contributions tonight will make a remarkable difference in the fight
against breast cancer in our community. Thank you for being here. We hope
you enjoy the evening! Thank you again for your support.
Sincerely,
Lambie Stout loved life. And she
believed in living hers to the fullest.
She was an amazing person who
always put others before herself.
She was a devoted mother and wife
and a loyal friend; she was naturally
easy-going and fun to be around.
She was spirited and witty with a
great sense of humor that always
put people at ease. Lambie loved
to bring people together whether it
was for celebration and friendship or
for a greater cause.
GIVING BACK
Lambie also enjoyed giving back
to her community. Whether it
was providing the opportunity
for children from the Boys & Girls
Club to see the latest Harry Potter
movie at the theatre, serving on
the vestry at St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church or speaking engagements
with her sister Lissa in support
of the American Cancer Society,
Lambie was always willing to lend
a hand and support. She gave her
time and commitment to so many
organizations, including the Camp
Storer Scholarship Committee,
United Way Young Leaders Council,
Smith College, Maumee Valley
Country Day School, the Junior
League, the National Society of the
Colonial Dames and various local
animal rescue organizations.
DIAGNOSIS
Lambie was diagnosed with breast
cancer at age 36 when her daughter
Elizabeth was just 1 year old. She
was overwhelmed by the news. She
had lost her father to Colon Cancer
when she was just seven, and could
not bear the thought of Elizabeth
experiencing such grief. She knew
she had to fight. She had so much
life yet to live, and so much more
time to share with Elizabeth.
COMFORT CRUNCH
During her treatments, Lambie
took reprieve in spending time
with Elizabeth. It was during the
holidays that they recreated an
after-school recipe that Lambie’s
mother used to prepare for her. She
referred to the recipe as “Merry Mix.”
It also became the only food that
she could stomach.
Finally, after the good news of
remission was received, Lambie
decided to turn her “Merry Mix” into
a business called Comfort Crunch
as a promise to herself to move
beyond her illness and contribute
something substantive to the
world. The sale of Comfort Crunch
products empowered her to donate
five percent of company profits to
further cancer research.
While in remission, Lambie also
served on the Board of Directors
of The Victory Center and the
Northwest Ohio chapter of The
Susan G. Komen Foundation for
the Cure. Lambie rallied her family
and friends to join her Komen team,
Pretty in Pink for the Race for
the Cure. Each year her team and
support grew.
RECURRENCE
In 2009 after 4 years of being
in remission, Lambie’s cancer
was back and had metastasized
into her bones. Her courage was
monumental while she visited the
country’s leading cancer centers and
listened to her Stage IV diagnosis
and treatment options. She bravely
decided to participate in the clinical
trial of a drug that managed to
miraculously shrink her tumors. The
treatment was ongoing, but had
minimal downside and it seemed to
be working.
COCKTAILS FOR THE CURE
It was during this time that Lambie
decided to host the 2010 “Cocktails
for the Cure,” an event to raise
awareness and money to end Breast
Cancer. She would host a party
in her garden that would feature
pink drinks and pink desserts. At
the party, people could sign up for
the race and bid on silent auction
items. And so the planning and the
fun began!! Because Lambie was
competitive, her first priority was
to become #1 fundraising team in
Northwest Ohio. Her second priority
was creating and testing pink
cocktails with her girlfriends! The
event was a great success and led to
more “Pretty in Pink” events like “Ice
Cream for the Cure” and “Shop for
the Cure”.
RECURRENCE
In 2011, Lambie she was diagnosed
a third time. With ongoing
chemotherapy and radiation, she
knew she would not be able to
host a 2nd Annual Cocktails for the
Cure as she had hoped. Without
hesitation, “Lambie’s Flock” of
friends wanted to help continue
her efforts. It was a difficult time,
because as Lambie’s friends were
planning this event in her honor,
Lambie was fighting for her life. But
as hard as it was for Lambie, she
never lost her positive spirit, sense
of humor or love of life.
On September 11th, 2011, Lambie lost
her six year battle with cancer.
HER FLOCK CONTINUES
Three days later, on September 14th
2011, the 2nd Annual Cocktails for
the Cure event to raise money and
awareness became a celebration
for an incredible woman who made
a difference in our lives and our
community. The event and the
race efforts together raised over
$42,000 making Team Pretty in
Pink Northwest Ohio’s top overall
Our mission:
Lambie’s Legacy brings
people together to support
organizations that promote
health awareness and cancer
research in the hope of giving
people more time to share
the extraordinary moments
of everyday life.
fundraising team for the 2011 Susan
G. Komen Race for the Cure. And
Lambie’s race day team presence
grew to over 160 participants!

A FOUNDATION IN HER HONOR
All of Lambie’s efforts in the fight
against breast cancer were personal,
but ultimately those efforts were
selfless, in that she fought for all the
women still fighting and who have
yet to be diagnosed. We may have
lost an incredible person, but this
fight is not over. To help find a cure
for this devastating disease and to
honor our friend, Lambie’s Flock has
formed a foundation in her name,
Lambie’s Legacy: The Margaret
Lamb Guyton Stout Fund.
(link to next page).
Lambie’s grace, courage and
strength to not only fight for her
life, but to live life to the fullest is
an inspiration to us all. And it is her
spirit of generosity and outreach
that is her legacy.
5 COCKTAILS FOR THE CURE 2012 6

1 A Family Heirloom
Robert Guyton’s gift to Priscilla was treasured by Lambie. This hand-blown
glass vase was created by world renown Dominick Labino, internationally
known scientist, inventor, artist and master craftsman in glass. Dominick began
his professional career at Owens-Illinois and was part of a ground-breaking
glassblowing workshop at the Toledo Museum of Art in 1962, where Lambie’s
father, Robert took glassblowing classes. Labino’s artworks in glass are in
the permanent collections of more than 100 museums throughout the world.
was offered as a way to honor
the board service that Lambie
provided to the Victory Center and
to help Victory Center participants
connect with one another through
art. Participants took part in the
creation of a 19 x 53 inch mosaic of
a ribbon heart amongst the clouds
for the Cocktails for the Cure. The
piece was designed by Areka as a
tribute to Lambie and in recognition
of the first of the three goals for
Lambie’s Legacy to Connect, Share
Age of Diagnosis
This compelling exhibit teaches us the importance of screening
and diagnostic mammograms. Early detection of breast cancer
saves lives, reduces co-morbidity such as lymphedema, and
increases treatment options. Three of the five targeted counties
(Defiance, Lucas, Ottawa, Seneca and Wood) have late-stage
diagnosis rates higher than Ohio (28.9%)
(source: Ohio Cancer Incidence Surveillance System, ODH, 2011).
Additionally, 36%- 40% of women aged 40+ in the above
northwestern Ohio counties did not have a mammogram
within the past twelve months (source: NWO Affiliate Susan
G Komen for the Cure, 2011 Community Profile Report). It
is believed the majority of these women do not schedule
an annual mammogram because they are uninsured or
underinsured. This is a troubling statistic because the key
to saving lives is early detection.
Special thanks to our breast cancer survivors who so willingly
gave their time and medical images for our lesson in visualliteracy,
providing human connection to our statistics. Your
strength is inspirational.
Thank-you Dr. Shermis and ProMedica Toledo Hospital Breast
Care Center for your collaboration, and a huge thank you to
Kelly Krueger for your management and coordination of this
project. We could not have done it without you.
Special thanks also to our photographer, Kim Bair and Ron
Mikel of American Frame.
A woman’s chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer is:
from age 30 through age 39 . . . . . . 0.43 percent (often expressed as “1 in 233”)
from age 40 through age 49 . . . . . . 1.45 percent (often expressed as “1 in 69”)
from age 50 through age 59 . . . . . . 2.38 percent (often expressed as “1 in 42”)
from age 60 through age 69 . . . . . . 3.45 percent (often expressed as “1 in 29”)
