traffic and ensuing passing attempts will penalize<br />

each successive driver exponentially. So don’t let<br />

competitors, especially those running a slower pace,<br />

bring your lap times closer to theirs through<br />

unnecessary dicing. And don’t drive with someone in<br />

your mirror.<br />

Once you have met or exceeded your “goal,”<br />

you can save your energy, your car and its tires <strong>by</strong><br />

getting <strong>of</strong>f the track. If, on the other hand, your lap<br />

times tell you that you aren’t up to speed, then you<br />

know—objectively—you need more laps.<br />

Qualifying sessions are lengthy to provide<br />

you the best opportunities on track—but there is no<br />

requirement to make them endurance sessions.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional drivers know this and <strong>of</strong>ten angle to be<br />

the latest out in the session.<br />

In the end, there’s always a spot on the grid<br />

for every car. And don’t forget to make sure you<br />

have enough gas in the tank to make weight at the<br />

end.<br />
