3 USE OF THE WHO SURGICAL SAFETY CHECKLIST ON SURGICAL MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE IN OPERATING ROOM BLUD RSUD MEURAXA BANDA ACEH CITY Merina CH 1 , Iwan Dwiprahasto 2 ABSTRACT Background: A surgery is one <strong>of</strong> medical treatments aimed to save one’s live, prevent from disability and complication. However, <strong>the</strong> effect <strong>of</strong> surgery can ca<strong>use</strong> death and handicap such as from <strong>surgical</strong> wound infection. RSUD Meuraxa Banda Aceh city in 2010, <strong>the</strong>re were 4 post <strong>surgical</strong> patients suffered from dehiscence in <strong>the</strong> suture <strong>surgical</strong> operation. There have been rarely prophylaxis antibiotic adductions to pre <strong>surgical</strong> patients. There have also been latency and cancellation for <strong>the</strong> surgery. One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> efforts to decrease <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> infections to <strong>surgical</strong> wound is by using WHO <strong>surgical</strong> <strong>safety</strong> <strong>checklist</strong>. Objectives: To find out to what extent is <strong>the</strong> suitability <strong>of</strong> <strong>surgical</strong> operations in operating room RSUD Meuraxa Banda Aceh City with WHO <strong>surgical</strong> <strong>safety</strong> <strong>checklist</strong>s and <strong>the</strong> impact toward <strong>the</strong> <strong>surgical</strong> outcomes. Method: This is an observational research using sectional cross design. The dependent variable is <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> surgery wound infections and <strong>the</strong> independent variables are <strong>the</strong> characteristics <strong>of</strong> <strong>surgical</strong> patients, prophylaxis antibiotics and WHO <strong>surgical</strong> <strong>safety</strong> <strong>checklist</strong>. The data were collected through observation using <strong>checklist</strong> toward <strong>surgical</strong> and prophylaxis antibiotics operational procedure. The data <strong>the</strong>n were analyzed by using frequency distribution, percentage and chi square test. The subjects <strong>of</strong> this research are all <strong>surgical</strong> patients from 1 nd <strong>of</strong> June to 15 th <strong>of</strong> July 2011 in RSUD Meuraxa Banda Aceh city. Analysis and results: The variable <strong>of</strong> subject characteristics <strong>of</strong> age and education are significant to <strong>surgical</strong> wound infection occurrence (p value
