The Shrub Layer Finding Food Many of the leaf-eating creatures in the canopy layer, such as caterpillars and snails, eat the leaves in the shrub layer as well. There are often more berries and nuts in the canopy layer which are food <strong>for</strong> blus tits, great tits and chaffinches. The Ground Layer Many animals which live in the ground layer come out at night to find their food. Large insects such as ground beetles eat smaller creatures. Pygmy shrews eat beetles.
