necessary as various parts of the old system had reached the end of their operational life<br />

and were becoming increasingly difficult to service or replace.<br />

In an initial phase of the project, the fundamental infrastructure was modernised to provide<br />

a base for the new, state-of-the-art dispatch system. Over the last months, a provisional operations<br />

centre specially set up at the Rega Centre has served as a test and training environment.<br />

Finally, on 3 December <strong>2012</strong>, the new system was put into operation, bringing the<br />

second project phase to a successful conclusion. The Operations Centre team will continue<br />

to work from the temporary facilities until this spring as the Rega Operations Centre is modernised<br />

and equipped with the new workstations.<br />

The project will continue through to the end of 2014 when he last of the 42 fixed radio transmitting<br />

stations is scheduled to be modernised. [REGA]<br />

UNITED KINGDOM<br />

CORNWALL: The charity has been rewarded for its commitment to the environment by<br />

winning the New Build category at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards. Chief Executive<br />

Paula Martin collected the award.<br />

Nearly £1M in funding was secured from the ERDF Convergence programme and principle<br />

contractors Morgan Sindall were appointed.<br />

Construction started in April 2011 and was completed in <strong>January</strong> <strong>2012</strong> and the charity<br />

moved the entire operation across in the February.<br />

Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust has confirmed the news of the tragic death of former Chairman,<br />

Mr Harold Chapman.<br />

Harold and his wife Pamela, who was also a trustee, had recently emigrated to Australia, to
