Advantages and challenges
I n n o v a t i o n + T e c h n i k
• High potential of solar energy and space in the Mediterranean
region
• High local value
• Continuous production possible with storage technolgies or
hybridisation
• Technology already available and proved
• lowest LEC in comparison to other renewables
• Combined generation of electrictiy, heat, cooling and drinking
water
• Political support, also cross-border (feed-in tariffs, R&D)
• High investment costs -> cost reduction needed through
higher operating temperatures, storage technologies, efficient
concentrator concepts, innovative materials, quality
improvement measures

Conclusions
I n n o v a t i o n + T e c h n i k
• Solar resources for CSP technologies are huge on the
Arabian peninsula
• Engagement in CSP will provide growing chances for
companies, utilities and new jobs
• Innovative and high-quality CSP technologies from
Germany are available to realize this solar vision
• Appropriate framework conditions are essential
• Investors need securities, e.g. by long term power
purchase agreements
