It is the only one of ist kind - A civilian Roman
city in the occupied Germania.
A historic site, established around the turn of the
first millennium where Romans and Germans
lived and traded peacefully some 2000 years
ago. A visible symbol of the extent of that
emerging city was ist ´forum´ - a central
administration building. This building was
surrounded by a great number of residential
buildings and workshops. A rampart protected
the area.
Excavations show building fragments. The
discovery of numerous pieces of jewellery and
utensils are interpreted to be evidential of
peaceful relationships between the ethnicities of
that era and their far reaching trade relations.
The Varus Battle in 9 AD during which the
Romans were defeated sealed the faith and
history of this ancient roman site and brought
historical changes to the whole of Europe as the
Roman troops had to retreat and re-define their
borders ad the banks of the River Rhine. The city
they left behind was left to it´s faith.
On the anniversary of this prominent date,..
