PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
I am a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Harley Street in London and Guildford, Surrey.
Initially an academic at Oxford University, I now have a very busy practice, which I have
built into a group practice through The Whiteley Clinic. Through this Clinic approach I
insure that we offer the cutting edge procedures in vascular surgery. The Clinic that I have set
up supports clinical research, which keeps our practice at the forefront of the areas that we
specialize in.
I introduced VNUS Closure (radiofrequency ablation of Varicose Veins) into the UK in
1999. My team and I developed a percutaneous method of this procedure and over the last 5
years have built up the world largest series of this technique. In addition, the results that we
have produced are the best of any technique currently available in the treatment of Varicose
Veins.
Our current work is centered around the successful treatment of ovarian and vulval varicose
veins. Many females have unsuccessful varicose vein surgery as traditional vein surgeons
believe that their problem must come from the legs. In 5–10 % of females who have had
children this is not the case – and so current treatments fail. We have developed a technique
of treating such veins and will be producing our results in 2005.
All of our surgeons perform leg bypass surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery and
carotid surgery. By acting as a group practice, we insure that each operation is performed by
2 consultants, speeding up the operation and reducing complications due to time on the table
– and we can provide a high level of post-operative cover and care for our patients.
