Teacher Institute for Education in<br />
Nairobi, Kenya. With <strong>the</strong> appointment,<br />
Smith also becomes an associate<br />

SMU School <strong>of</strong><br />
Education.<br />

TOP STUDENTS NAMED AT<br />
SENIOR HONORS BANQUET<br />
The cream <strong>of</strong> <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s crop <strong>of</strong><br />
graduating seniors was honored April<br />
26 at <strong>the</strong> annual Senior Honors Banquet,<br />
beginning with a reception and<br />
followed by dinner and awards.<br />
Seniors received awards in 17 categories,<br />
and Vice President for Academic<br />
Affairs Dr. Jeffrey Highland<br />
listed members <strong>of</strong> honor societies and<br />
those seniors who received graduate<br />
and pr<strong>of</strong>essional school acceptances,<br />
grants and fellowships. Dr. Highland<br />
also noted students headed for volunteer<br />
positions following commencement.<br />

Mass., is chief<br />

Investment Management, chair <strong>of</strong><br />
Fleet Enterprises, Inc. and chair <strong>of</strong><br />
FIS Securities, Inc. He was presented<br />
with an honorary doctorate in Ethical<br />
Leadership, and he spoke to <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> community<br />
and <strong>the</strong> public on <strong>the</strong> topic, “A Bird<br />
on <strong>the</strong> Shoulder: An Ethics Solution.”<br />

International food, fashion<br />
and talent show is a big hit<br />
The second annual International Dinner, sponsored<br />
by <strong>the</strong> SMU International Student Organization,<br />
was held March 18 in <strong>the</strong> Toner Student<br />
Center. The buffet meal featured cuisines from<br />
around <strong>the</strong> world, from such countries as Mexico,<br />
Germany, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia. Several musical<br />
demonstrations were performed, including a “tai<br />
kwon do” demonstration, and a Japanese dance.<br />
After <strong>the</strong> show, student fashion-show models came<br />
into <strong>the</strong> audience to meet guests and take pictures.<br />
The purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> annual dinner is ‘to promote<br />
diversity and to share <strong>the</strong> cultures<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> international students<br />
with <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
students and members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Winona community,’ according<br />
to Nick Richmond, activities<br />
director at <strong>the</strong> Center for<br />
International Students. There<br />
were about 75 international<br />
students at SMU last year.<br />
