• Jacqueline Churzin, Lower Elementary Teacher: Jacqueline also comes to us from Michigan. After earning a degree in Elementary Education at Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan and completing the Montessori Elementary Teacher Training Program, Jacqueline began her Montessori teaching career at Renaissance Academy as a Lower Elementary teacher. After moving to North Carolina, she taught Lower Elementary at Christian Montessori School at Lake Norman. Jacqueline also enjoyed a semester studying abroad in Volgograd, Russia. • Shauna Jendro, Lower Elementary Teacher: Shauna has taught four years at Nathaniel Alexander elementary school. This summer she attended Montessori training at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education in Apex, NC. She recently earned her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Montreat College, August 2010 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in reading, from Montana State University Northern, December 2006. She truly loves learning and seeks educational opportunities that help her grow as a professional. Shauna grew up in Great Falls, Montana and in the summer of 2007 moved to Charlotte to begin a new adventure. She has an amazing and energetic 3 year old son, named Terryn, who keeps her very busy. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the beach, reading, rollerblading, skiing, swimming, and spending time with family and friends CLASS ASSIGNMENTS Class assignments will be emailed this Friday and Saturday. Pre-K students will also receive their staggered entry date. IMMUNIZATION REMINDER North Carolina law requires that parents provide the school with a record of your child’s immunizations and current physical exam (health assessment) by the first day of school. If your child has not had the required shots and/or physical exam, or if you are not sure, please contact your doctor/health care provider for as soon as possible. You can also contact the Mecklenburg Health Department for an immunization appointment at 704-336-6500. Parents must provide proof of immunization and physical exam within 30 days of school entry or your child will be excluded from school until records are submitted. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us at 980-343-0692. More information on community locations for immunizations and physical exams is available on the CMS website at www.cms.k12.nc.us . OPEN HOUSE AND SCHOOL PICNIC We look forward to seeing everyone on August 23 rd for our Open House. From 4:00 – 6:00 PM our classrooms will be open for you and your children to visit and meet the teachers. During the Open House we ask that students only visit their current classroom rather than previous teachers. This is a “drop-in event” with no formal program. On our lower field, we will hold a school picnic from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Please bring a family picnic and blanket.
UPPER ELEMENTARY OPEN Our Upper Elementary classes will be holding their open house outside at the picnic at a designated location on the lower playground. Parents of Upper Elementary students will be asked to bring in supplies at a later date – when the new classroom building is open.
