ponents, and we cannot do
that if we are going to reach
our goals. We have to play
our brand of basketball, not
anyone else’s.”
No offense to any of the
other teams within the 24-
5A ranks, but Clear Brook’s
goal down the stretch is
simple – be in position to
face frontrunner Clear Lake
for the district title in the
regular season finale.
“Our goal is to win district,
but to do that, we have
six very tough games in
line, and we have to play
them one at a time,” Pillow
said.
Dobie boys now 2-2
Back-to-back losses to
Sam Rayburn (53-49) and
South Houston (59-56) by a
combined seven points suddenly
have the Dobie varsity
boys’ team sitting at 2-2
with the big game coming
against Deer Park.
A 19-14 fourth-quarter
push by Sam Rayburn led
to that loss for Dobie, and
South Houston outscored
the Lomnghorns 6-3 in
overtime to take the victory.
Daryl Edwards led Dobie
with 14 points in the game.
Brook girls still in mix
Despite the setback
against Dickinson, the Clear
Brook varsity girls’ team
could very well go down
Brook soccer has mixed results
Early this season, the
Clear Brook varsity boys’
and girls’ soccer teams are
seeing mixed results on the
The South Belt Suns
played the Pasadena Eagles
in Pasadena Recreation
Department 9-10-year-old
basketball action, taking a
27-14 victory to improve to
2-0 early this season.
The Suns started fast as
they took an 8-0 lead in the
first period. By halftime, the
Suns were able to extend
their lead to 14-4.
The Eagles made a slight
run the third period to close
the gap to 18-12, but the
Suns put a final run in the
fourth period to make the
final score 27-14.
The Dobie High School
powerlifting team is back at
it and going hard under the
direction of coach Kenneth
Foster.
Judging by the results of
the first meet of the season
at La Marque High School,
the teams are poised for a
breakout season.
“Going into our preseason
training, we added a
cardio camp, which consisted
of all types of running
stints,” Foster said.
“Our No. 1 goal was to
drop some pounds. In this
sport, you compete against
other athletes in your weight
category.
“In many situations,
carrying one extra pound
can force you into another
weight division that may
not be suited for you, so
being in great shape is critical.”
Following the cardio
playing field.
The Wolverine boys, still
dealing with a slew of injuries
that struck the team just
Dobie powerlifters stand out early
work, the team members
endured an eight-day boot
camp, designed to get the
lifters mentally and physically
ready for the season.
The boot camp drills
comprise four sets of 100
repetitions of crunches,
push-ups, jumping jacks
and free squats.
At the La Marque meet,
several veteran team members
on the girls’ side helped
Dobie grab an outstanding
second-place finish.
Dorthy Tran, Brittney
Needless to say, wins are
of the essense for the Brook
The Wolverine boys are
reasonably the lone team
much fun for the players
