How Do Wikis Work?
A wiki is made up of CGI scripts and plain text files. When editing a wiki, the CGI script sends
a raw text file to the browser in an editable form. This allows for the modification of the
server, which then replaces the existing text file with the modified version.
When requesting a wiki page, the CGI script collects the corresponding text file, alters the
marked-up text into HTML, and then changes user-selected words into hyperlinks. It then
inserts the information into a page template and sends the result to the browser.
