with his father in a family foundry which was in business<br />

until 1952. A great fan of the Canada Atlantic <strong>Rail</strong>way,<br />

he joined the Canada Atlantic Old Boys Association,<br />

initiated by William G. Ross, where he remained active<br />

until its termination in 1960. He published pictures in<br />

railway magazines, including <strong>Rail</strong>road Stories (now<br />

<strong>Rail</strong>road and <strong>Rail</strong>fan) and proceeded into numerous<br />

exchanges and sales with other fans and historians.<br />

The fond attests the career of William G. Cole jr.<br />

at the Canada Atlantic <strong>Rail</strong>way, within railway shops and<br />

his activities with the CRHA, between 1890 and 1960. It<br />

also briefly covers the professional life of his father for the<br />

Northern <strong>Rail</strong>road of New Jersey and the Canada<br />

Atlantic <strong>Rail</strong>way, from 1867 through the twenties.<br />

This fond covers many specifics areas of<br />

railroading: steam locomotives, diesel-electric<br />

locomotives and industrial locomotives as well.<br />

Companies mentioned include: <strong>Canadian</strong> National<br />

<strong>Rail</strong>ways, the <strong>Canadian</strong> Pacific <strong>Rail</strong>way, the Grand Trunk<br />

<strong>Rail</strong>way, the Delaware & Hudson <strong>Rail</strong>way, the Rutland,<br />

Boston & Maine and a few other companies, both<br />

<strong>Canadian</strong> and American ones. Locomotives are mostly<br />

pictured in the railway yards of Montreal (Turcot, Glen,<br />

Longue-Pointe and Outremont): workers are also<br />

<strong>canadien</strong>nes, dont Ie chemin de fer Canadien Pacifique<br />

(aux ateliers De Lorimier). Plusieurs annees plus tard, il<br />

s'associe a son pere dans un atelier de fonderie familiale<br />

jusqu'en 1952. Grand amateur de la compagnie Canada<br />

Atlantic, William G. Cole fonde I'association Canada<br />

Atlantic Old Boys ou il est actif jusqu'a sa dissolution en<br />

1960. II publie des cliches dans des revues <strong>ferroviaire</strong>s<br />

dont <strong>Rail</strong>road Stories et procede a de nombreux echanges<br />

de photos et a des ventes avec d'autres amateurs et<br />

historiens.<br />

<strong>Le</strong> fonds temoigne de la carriere de William G.<br />

Cole fils a la compagnie Canada Atlantic <strong>Rail</strong>way, dans<br />

les ateliers <strong>ferroviaire</strong>s et de ses activites au sein de<br />

l'Associaition <strong>canadien</strong>ne d'histoire <strong>ferroviaire</strong> entre<br />

1890 et 1960. II relate egalement brievement la vie<br />

professionnelle de son pere a la Northern <strong>Rail</strong>road de<br />

New Jersey et a la Canada Atlantic <strong>Rail</strong>way entre 1867 et<br />

les annees 1920.<br />
